Rick Whitehead Jazz Trio

Rick Whitehead Jazz Trio brings together guitarist Rick Whitehead, bassist John Previti, and drummer Nick Ruggieri for contemporary jazz rooted in the Washington, D.C. scene. The trio is known for close interaction, virtuosic playing, and a balance of technical precision and emotional expression.

Formed in 1994 after the death of guitarist Danny Gatton, the group has performed at venues including Blues Alley, Bohemian Caverns, the Kennedy Center Millennium Stage, and the Smithsonian Jazz Club. Its albums include *Live in Captivity*, which won the 1998 Washington Area Music Association Award for Best Contemporary Jazz Album, as well as *Live in Captivity, Again* and *So There We Were…*. Whitehead contributes lyrical guitar work, Previti brings a swinging bass style developed through work with Gatton and Charlie Byrd, and Ruggieri supplies rhythm shaped by his Berklee training.
