Rick Whitehead Jazz Trio

The Rick Whitehead Jazz Trio brings together guitarist Rick Whitehead, bassist John Previti, and drummer Nick Ruggieri for an evening of sophisticated, high-energy jazz. Formed in 1994 shortly after the death of legendary guitarist Danny Gatton, the trio is known for close musical interplay, virtuosic performances, and strong ties to the Washington, D.C. jazz scene.

The group has performed at Blues Alley, Bohemian Caverns, the Kennedy Center Millennium Stage, and the Smithsonian Jazz Club. Its album *Live in Captivity* received the 1998 Washington Area Music Association Award for Best Contemporary Jazz Album, followed by *Live in Captivity, Again* in 2001 and *So There We Were…* in 2006. Whitehead contributes lyrical guitar lines, Previti brings a swinging bass style shaped by his work with Gatton and Charlie Byrd, and Ruggieri supplies rhythm informed by his training at Berklee.
