Stephen Kinzer — Boiling Point: How America Brought War to Ukraine
Stephen Kinzer discusses *Boiling Point: How America Brought War to Ukraine*, his account of the decades of covert conflict between the United States and Moscow over Ukraine. Beginning with CIA recruitment of Ukrainian agents in postwar European refugee camps, the book follows generations of rebels, exiles, informants, and covert operatives through the Cold War and beyond. Kinzer argues that the United States continued treating Ukraine as a strategic project after its independence and NATO’s eastward expansion, helping create the conditions that culminated in the war.
Kinzer is an award-winning author and correspondent who reported from more than 50 countries during more than 20 years at *The New York Times*. He is a senior fellow at Brown University’s Watson School of International and Public Affairs and writes a world affairs column for *The Boston Globe*. His ten books generally examine the origins and consequences of American intervention abroad.
