Josie Vosoba's exhibition "Bridges from Rock Creek to Urban Nocturnes" transforms the Arts Club of Washington into a meditation on the threshold between urban life and nature. The show explores how the bridges of Rock Creek Park function not only as physical connectors but as psychological passages, marking the moment the city releases you into one of America's great urban forests. Through three distinct bodies of work—larger paintings of quiet forest interiors, smaller on-site bridge studies painted quickly before light shifts, and urban nocturnes capturing the magical autumn evenings when ginkgo trees glow under streetlights—Vosoba celebrates the park founders and urban planners who planted the ginkgos, built the bridges, and preserved the creek. The artist describes being enchanted by how street lights animate the golden canopy, with police car lights bringing new personality to dark bark and headlights sweeping through leaves. The nocturnes began as quick gouache sketches and evolved into full paintings that preserve that sense of discovery. At the exhibition's heart is the question of why so many bridges: for Vosoba, a bridge symbolizes two banks that could not meet until someone decided they could, and these paintings argue quietly for what is possible when we build toward each other.
