Mass in Exile

Cantate Chamber Singers opens its season with two contemporary works centered on reconciliation. Acoustic guitar textures and echoes of Gregorian chant connect Jeffrey Van’s *A Procession Winding Around Me*, which follows the anticipation, violence, devastation, and eventual healing depicted in Walt Whitman’s Civil War poetry, with Mark Buller’s *Mass in Exile*. Buller’s work explores the shared struggle to find a renewed faith in a damaged world, with text by librettist Leah Lax.

The performance features baritone Carl DuPont. A reception follows the concert.
