Soundscape with Muse Dodd and Cecily Bumbray
On August 20, 2026, The Phillips Collection presents Soundscape with Muse Dodd and Cecily Bumbray, a live in-gallery performance created in response to the museum’s juried exhibition *Tomorrow the Sun Will Rise*. The two artists will compose and perform an original soundscape that layers songs selected by the artists featured in the exhibition. The program is free and in person, with seating provided for attendees.
When: Thursday, August 20, 2026; the museum’s Third Thursday extended hours that evening run from 5 to 8 pm.
Venue: The Phillips Collection, in the museum’s galleries.

Program: A live, seated soundscape performance developed in response to *Tomorrow the Sun Will Rise: The Phillips Collection Juried Exhibition*. Muse Dodd and Cecily Bumbray will weave together a selection of songs chosen by the artists whose work is included in the exhibition.
About Muse Dodd: Muse Dodd, also known as MUSE(O)FIRE, is a Baltimore-based DJ, filmmaker, and creative technologist with ancestral roots in the River Parishes of Southeastern Louisiana. Their work explores how Blackness exists in the near future, drawing on personal and collective histories that are both real and imagined. Over the past nine years, Dodd has performed at festivals including Love Groove Festival and has provided direct support for artists such as Serpentwithfeet. Dodd views music as a transformative force for building community, uplifting marginalized voices, and keeping the dance floor moving.
About Cecily Bumbray: Vocalist and songwriter Cecily Bumbray is a Washington, DC native known for her agile soprano and candid lyrics. Her warm, rich sound is rooted in mid-century soul and jazz, and she has drawn comparisons to Minnie Riperton and Amel Larrieux. Her 2018 album *Songs of Love and Freedom* earned a 2019 WAMMIE Award for Best Soul Album. Her 2019 project *Awakening Pt. I* brought a SoulTracks Readers’ Choice Award nomination for Best Female Vocalist of the Year and an Indie Soul Music Award for Best Female Artist of the Year; its lead single “Clumsy” won a 2020 WAMMIE for Best Soul Song. Her 2024 album *Awakening Pt. II*, inspired by bell hooks’s *All About Love*, explores a “love ethic” through songs about familial love, self-love, divine love, and love of the Earth. Bumbray has appeared on José James’s *No Beginning No End 2* and has opened for Gregory Porter, Ezra Collective, Nate Smith, Maysa, Johnny Gill, Kenny Lattimore, Elle Varner, Becca Stevens, and Bilal. She has performed at the Essence Festival of Culture, Capital Jazz Fest, the Atlanta Jazz Festival, the DC Jazz Festival, the Kennedy Center, Blues Alley, Apollo Music Café, the Hamilton, Howard Theater, and the VI Annual Mompox, Colombia Jazz Festival. She is also a voice teacher certified in Somatic Voicework through Shenandoah University’s Vocal Pedagogy Institute, and she leads guided meditations and sound healing workshops; her meditations have been selected as Editor’s Picks on the Insight Timer app.
