Germán López brings the distinctive sound of the Canary Islands to Strathmore’s Mansion for two intimate performances, blending centuries-old island traditions with contemporary jazz and global influences. A leading innovator on the timple—a small stringed instrument native to the Canary Islands and a cousin to the cavaquinho, cuatro, and charango—López is joined by pianist Matt King for a program drawn largely from his recent recordings, including his 2022 album *ALMA*. Together they weave Spanish flamenco rhythms, West African structural ideas, and jazz improvisation into a transportive, modern take on “island music” shaped by centuries of Atlantic cultural exchange.
