Germán López

Germán López, one of the leading innovators of the Canary Islands’ timple, performs with acclaimed pianist Matt King. Drawing from López’s latest albums, including *ALMA* (2022), the concert combines the traditions of Spanish flamenco and West African music with jazz improvisation to create a contemporary, globally connected style of island music.

The timple—a small Canary Islands instrument related to the cavaquinho, cuatro, and charango—is central to López’s sound. His virtuosic playing balances emotional depth with an entrancing, delicately rippling quality, while his collaboration with King creates a performance that is both intimate and expansive.
