BONEY JAMES

Boney James brings his contemporary jazz and R&B sound to The Birchmere in support of *A Simple Man*, his 20th studio album. The multi-platinum saxophonist, composer, and producer draws on more than three decades of deep grooves, melodic playing, and an unmistakable saxophone voice.

The album represents a more personal and focused chapter for James, whose career began with his 1992 debut, *Trust*, after early touring work with Morris Day, The Isley Brothers, Teena Marie, and other artists. His music has earned more than two billion U.S. on-demand streams, four GRAMMY nominations, three NAACP Image Award nominations, four RIAA Gold certifications, and a Soul Train Award. Billboard named him one of the three leading contemporary jazz artists of the 2000s, and he became the first artist to reach 20 No. 1 singles on the Billboard Smooth Jazz chart in 2024.

*A Simple Man* includes a contemporary R&B duet with GRAMMY-winning vocalist Ledisi, a collaboration with trumpeter Marquis Hill, a guest appearance by guitarist Larry Carlton, and James’s groove-oriented reinterpretation of Duke Ellington’s “In a Sentimental Mood.”
