Willem de Looper A Brush for Community
Willem de Looper: A Brush for Community is an exhibition and art donation partnership between the De Looper Foundation and the Art Connection in the Capital Region, generously hosted by the Woman’s National Democratic Club. The show features works by the late Dutch-born American abstract painter Willem de Looper, known for his vibrant, gestural canvases that evolved from Washington Color School influences into a distinctive personal vocabulary of layered brushstrokes and lyrical forms. This exhibition not only celebrates de Looper’s artistic legacy but also facilitates the donation of artworks to community organizations through the Art Connection, underscoring a commitment to making art accessible to a broader public. The centerpiece image shown is de Looper’s 1985 untitled work, a representative example of his mid-career style. Visitors are invited to an opening reception and can view the exhibition during regular gallery hours throughout the summer.
