Samba Dance Classes with Luy Cortes

Samba Dance Classes with Luy Cortes is a weekly instructional series presented by EducArte at The JaM Space in Rockville. The classes explore the fundamentals of Brazilian samba, including footwork, body isolations, hip movement, technique, groove, and new choreography. Participants may also prepare to perform samba with a live music ensemble if they choose.

The class welcomes everyone from beginners and advanced dancers to semi-professionals and dance instructors. No audition is required. Sessions are led by Luy Cortes, a Brazilian samba performer, choreographer, and instructor with more than 15 years of professional experience. Cortes is the founder and director of Samba Passion and has performed at weddings, corporate events, cultural festivals, parades, Carnival events, and community celebrations around the world. She has created and taught choreography for dancers at all levels and has taught at the University of Maryland, College Park, as well as at dance studios.

Showtimes: Tuesdays from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Classes meet September 8, 15, 22, and 29; October 6, 13, 20, and 27; November 3, 10, and 17; and December 1 and 8.

Run time: Each class lasts 90 minutes.

Experience level: All levels are welcome, including beginners, advanced dancers, semi-professionals, and dance instructors. No auditions are required.
