Jon Langford and Walter Salas-Humara
Jon Langford and Walter Salas-Humara bring two distinctive voices from the roots-rock underground to Hank Dietle’s Tavern. Their shared performance combines vivid storytelling, dry wit, punk energy, and songs drawing from country, rock ’n’ roll, Americana, and everyday working life.
Welsh-born, Chicago-based Jon Langford helped establish the influential punk group the Mekons in 1977 and later became known for his work with the Waco Brothers, solo recordings, visual art, and other projects. Walter Salas-Humara co-founded New York’s Silos in 1985, a band widely regarded as an early force in alt-country and Americana. The Silos were named Best New American Band in Rolling Stone’s 1987 critics’ poll. Salas-Humara is also a painter, and his music is marked by a rough-edged vocal style, memorable melodies, and humane, observant songwriting. The evening offers a chance to hear both artists perform work centered on character, craft, and conviction.
