Jewish Welcome Workshop

Tue, Sep 1, 2026 – Thu, Jun 10, 2027at 6:30 PM
Sedgwick Street Northwest, Washington, DC
$1,000

The Jewish Welcome Workshop is a comprehensive 38-week course offered at Sixth & I Historic Synagogue, designed for individuals seeking to learn about Judaism or to explore conversion. Participants engage in a blend of classroom learning and community immersion, with classes typically held on Tuesday evenings from 6:30 to 8:30 pm. The course runs annually from September 1 through June 10 and includes lectures, group activities, text studies, and holiday celebrations. It is intended for those who are not Jewish or who have recently discovered Jewish ancestry, and it prepares non-Jewish participants either to convert to Judaism or to live as a Ger Toshav (“fellow traveler”). No prior knowledge of Hebrew is required. Those interested in converting will meet individually with a rabbi during the year, and the rabbi determines readiness for the actual conversion in consultation with the participant. An Introduction to Judaism class—such as Sixth & I’s five-week Basically Jewish course—is a prerequisite, though it need not be completed at Sixth & I; university academic courses do not fulfill this requirement.

When: Tuesdays, 6:30 – 8:30 pm, from September 1, 2026, through June 10, 2027.

Showtimes: Not applicable; the workshop meets once per week on the scheduled evening.

Tickets: $1,000. Registration is by interest form, and submission adds the participant to a rolling admissions list without guaranteeing a spot. A prerequisite Introduction to Judaism course must be completed prior to enrollment.

Prerequisite: An Introduction to Judaism class, such as Sixth & I’s five-week Basically Jewish course. Academic university courses do not meet this requirement.

Ages: The course is intended for adults; no specific age restriction is provided.

Venue: Sixth & I Historic Synagogue, Washington, DC.

Note: Participants interested in meeting with a rabbi before the workshop to discuss conversion may contact Robyn to schedule an individual meeting. The workshop does not require Hebrew language knowledge.
