Creative Aging

Creative Aging is an exhibition centered on The Phillips Collection’s long-running art and wellness program for older adults living with memory loss. Inspired by founder Duncan Phillips’s belief in art’s ability to bring joy and enrich life, the program uses close looking, conversation, and hands-on artmaking to foster connection, curiosity, resilience, and creativity.

Each session begins in the galleries, where participants discuss their observations and emotional responses to works of art. Those conversations lead into artmaking activities, with the resulting creations presented in this exhibition. The initiative has operated for more than 13 years in partnership with local organizations and has expanded through the Phillips’s Reframing Care program to include care partners and a wider community.

Audience: Designed primarily for older adults living with memory loss, with related experiences extended to care partners and the broader community through Reframing Care
