The Gilded Age: Part I opens a two-part recital series curated by Artistic Advisor Daniel Hope. Hope, performing with pianist Maxim Lando, explores the exchange between European musical sophistication and American musical possibility around the turn of the 20th century. Through music and commentary, the artists consider how composers looked across borders for new energy, freedom, and inspiration.

The program moves from the cosmopolitan character of George Enescu and Maurice Ravel to Edward Elgar’s lyrical English works and César Franck’s celebrated Violin Sonata.
