Poetry and Resistance: Let's Read Cuban Poet Dulce María Loynaz!

Poetry and Resistance invites participants to explore the work of Cuban poet Dulce María Loynaz and use her writing as a springboard for creating their own poetry. Loynaz, a 1992 Cervantes Prize recipient, is regarded as a major figure in Cuban literature. Her introspective poetry was shaped in part by a life of deliberate isolation.

The program is led by Carlota Roby, a human-rights attorney, poet, and co-founder of the Vocales Verticales project. Roby has published the poetry collections *Las Manos de los Muertos* (2013), *Suburban Tales* (2019), and *Lilith* (2024), which are available through the Wheaton Library catalog. The program is presented with Vocales Verticales and includes poetry in Spanish, English, and Spanglish.
