Studio Saturday with Aliana Grace Bailey
Studio Saturday with Aliana Grace Bailey is a free, in-person drop-in art-making program at Phillips@THEARC. Held during Building Bridges Across the River’s Taste of the Harvest, the event explores Sam Gilliam’s inventive use of color, fabric, and materials through hands-on creative activities. No prior art experience is needed, and visitors may join at any point during the program.
From 2 to 4 p.m., Washington, DC– and Baltimore-based interdisciplinary fiber artist Aliana Grace Bailey will lead an activity informed by her own practice and Gilliam’s work. Phillips educators will continue offering art-making activities from 4 to 8 p.m. All supplies are provided while they last.

Featured artist: Aliana Grace Bailey is an interdisciplinary fiber artist, designer, and care worker from Washington, DC, who works between Washington and Baltimore. Her weavings, collages, and installations address ancestral healing, memory, radical self-love, wellness, and collective care.
Artist background: Bailey studied Social Work and Visual Arts Media Design at North Carolina A&T State University and earned an MFA in Community Arts and a Certificate in College Teaching of Art from the Maryland Institute College of Art. She has worked as a socially engaged teaching artist since 2017 and has completed residencies in Ghana, the Mid-Atlantic region, MASS MoCA, and Haystack Mountain School of Crafts, as well as an apprenticeship at The Fabric Workshop and Museum. She is a 2026 Center for Craft Teaching Artist Cohort grantee and a finalist for the 2025 Janet & Walter Sondheim Art Prize.
