Swing 5 Jazz/ Includes beginner Balboa dance lesson @7:15
Swing 5 brings a 1930s-inspired French jazz and swing sound to Hank Dietle’s Tavern, drawing on the music of Django Reinhardt. Led by local guitarist James Key, the band combines slap bass, two rhythm guitars, accordion, and fiddle to create lively music made for dancing.
The evening begins with a free, beginner-friendly Balboa lesson taught by experienced Glen Echo instructors Tony Treston and Katherine Anderson. The 30-minute lesson focuses on the footwork-oriented dance style, which suits fast tempos and crowded dance floors; no partner is required.
