Great Lake Swimmers

227 Maple Avenue East, Vienna, VA 22180
Free
Featuring: Great Lake Swimmers, Tony Dekker

Great Lake Swimmers bring their atmospheric indie-folk to Jammin Java as part of the Jammin Java/Union Stage Presents 25th anniversary concert series. Led by Tony Dekker, the Southern Ontario group combines acoustic instrumentation, rural soundscapes, wistful vocals, homespun folk, and intimate Americana. The band’s music has been shaped by recordings made in acoustically resonant settings such as old silos and country churches, with a rotating cast of musicians contributing to its pastoral sound.

The concert will feature music from the band’s latest album, *Caught Light*, released in October 2025. Produced by Darcy Yates and engineered by Jimmy Bowskill, the album was recorded in five days in Ontario’s Ganaraska Forest and draws on early-1970s folk-pop while taking a more spontaneous, direct approach to Dekker’s songwriting. Great Lake Swimmers have been shortlisted for the Polaris Music Prize and nominated twice for Canada’s Juno Awards; CBC has described the group as “a national treasure.”
