Swing 5 Jazz/ Includes beginner Balboa dance lesson @7:15
Swing 5 brings 1930s-inspired jazz and swing to Hank Dietle’s Tavern, evoking the sound and atmosphere of France’s vintage dance halls. Led by local guitarist James Key and influenced by legendary guitarist Django Reinhardt, the band combines slap bass, two rhythm guitars, accordion, and fiddle to create energetic music made for dancing.
The evening begins with a free introductory Balboa lesson led by experienced Glen Echo instructors Tony Treston and Katherine Anderson. This footwork-focused dance is designed for fast swing tempos and crowded floors, and no partner is required. After the lesson, guests can stay for Swing 5’s performance and try out their new steps on the tavern’s dance floor.
