Beyond Your Boundaries
The Waverly Street Gallery presents "Beyond Your Boundaries," a group exhibition that challenges its member artists to step outside their established artistic identities and explore unfamiliar styles, mediums, and approaches. The show, running from late June through the end of July 2026, features works created in methods and materials that differ from each artist’s signature practice—sculptors turning to textiles, jewelers capturing landscapes with a camera, painters tackling clay, and more. Through this deliberate departure from comfort zones, the artists reveal new dimensions of creativity and demonstrate that artistic growth often begins at the edge of convention.
When: Sunday, June 28, 2026 through Saturday, August 1, 2026.
Reception: Friday, July 10, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
Venue: Waverly Street Gallery.
Artists: Jeff Bulman, Jack Burbridge, Rachel Carren, Jack Hornady, Wanjin Kim, Bobbi Kittner, Mark Kramer, Janet Long, Kanika Sircar, Pat Silbert, Jasmin Smith, Sarah Spector, Eric Westbrook, and Andy Wohl.
Highlighted Works and Statements: Jeff Bulman presents nature photography that captures fleeting light and color, contrasting his usual jewelry work. Jack Burbridge contributes a painted copy of Bruegel’s “Triumph of Death” and a continuous-image fairy tale illustration. Rachel Carren’s “Seasons” uses hand-colored and woven paper overprinted to create four panels referencing seasonal change. Jack Hornady offers landscapes and still lifes that explore light, color, and form through paint. Wanjin Kim’s “Beyond (my) Boundaries” incorporates recycled and upcycled fabrics into clothing and bags, drawing on personal history. Bobbi Kittner experiments with paint alone—limiting herself to brushes and transparent paints—to recreate a collaged look on repurposed canvases. Mark Kramer paints exaggerated architectural lines of a French cityscape, informed by his background as an architect. Janet Long adapts motifs from Acoma Pueblo pottery onto gourds grown from authentic seeds, blending traditional designs with organic forms. Kanika Sircar’s “Night Sky Collage Series” combines memories of Mars exploration, haikus, and abstract imagery inspired by Mary Oliver. Pat Silbert shows oil paintings and oil pastels that reflect her journey through changing mediums for ecological and practical reasons. Jasmin Smith constructs “Tiger Tail Totems” from recycled home materials (mesh bags, silk flowers, paper, acrylics) into whimsical, unplanned sculptural forms. Sarah Spector returns to terra cotta for a series of small portrait busts, a medium she finds more wholesome than acrylics. Eric Westbrook’s “Portraits” draw on Pre-Raphaelite and Victorian influences to capture likenesses with rich color and line. Andy Wohl turns a vintage motorcycle expansion chamber into a sculpture, painted fire-alarm red for emotional impact.
