Maryland Emancipation Day - History Walking Tour
Maryland Emancipation Day commemorates the state constitutional referendum that ended slavery in Maryland. This guided walking tour explores downtown Rockville’s African-American history, including the courageous self-emancipation of people who fled slavery, the experiences of newly freed Marylanders, and the development of Black communities that pursued equality during the era of segregation.
Peerless Rockville presents the tour with local historians Ralph Buglass and Chiquita Sorrels. Because space is limited, advance registration is required.
