The People's Mic
The People’s Mic is a public, participatory afternoon of live music, storytelling, spoken word, open mic, and social-justice performance. It welcomes both listeners and participants, creating an accessible space for people across generations to connect and contribute their voices to the ongoing movement for justice.
The program includes Music in Common’s Black Legacy Project, with songs, stories, and multimedia performances exploring Black history; a spoken-word showcase hosted by Nina Ligon; and “Say It Loud,” an interactive social-justice improv performance by the CFA Repertory Theatre. Framed around the 250th anniversary of American democracy and the continuing work required to make it real for everyone, the event connects the Civil Rights Movement to the present and presents music as a tool for solidarity and change.
