Frida…A Self Portrait is a solo performance written and performed by Vanessa Severo, directed by Joanie Schultz, that delves into the inner world of the iconic Mexican painter Frida Kahlo. Set on the eve of Kahlo’s death, the show brings together the pain and passion of an extraordinary life, with Severo—a Brazilian writer and performer—cracking open a powerful connection between herself and Kahlo. The production has been praised as a “visually lush, emotionally rich” portrait by the Chicago Sun-Times, and it features intense physicality and raw honesty. The runtime is approximately one hour and 15 minutes with no intermission. The performance takes place at the Klein Theatre of Shakespeare Theatre Company.
