Brian Urra - Chillean Jazz Series

Brian Urra brings an intimate program of original music from *Blanca*, his forthcoming album inspired by family memories, love, nostalgia, and the passage of time. The performance explores the story of his grandmother’s life through music that combines Chilean influences with jazz, improvisation, contemporary textures, and folk traditions.

An award-winning Chilean violinist, composer, arranger, and Irish music dancer, Urra has more than 27 years of experience as a performer and educator. His performance history includes Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Dizzy’s Jazz Club, the Newport Folk Festival, TD Garden, New England Conservatory, Boston Symphony Hall, and Sanders Theatre. He has studied and developed his compositional work with musicians including Billy Childs, Kris Davis, Danilo Perez, and John Patitucci. Urra received the 2023 Ravinia Bridges composition award and completed his master’s degree at the Berklee Global Jazz Institute with noteworthy distinction. He is also an educator and has worked with the Boston Music Project, Musiconnects, MIT, and the Berklee Global Jazz Institute.
