Duanwu DIY & Share

Sun, Jun 21, 2026at 11:00 AM
6950 Maple Street Northwest, Washington, DC
Free

On Sunday, June 21, 2026, Rhizome DC will host Duanwu DIY & Share, a free community workshop exploring the cyclical and relational nature of Chinese culture through the lens of the Duanwu Festival. The event invites participants to reflect on the traditional Chinese calendar's 24 Solar Terms, with a focus on Duanwu—the fifth day of the fifth lunar month, a time when summer intensifies and is marked by remembrance, dragon boat racing, and eating zongzi. Attendees will engage in a hands-on DIY session: first, an introduction to Duanwu and its meaning, connecting personal stories of hometown, cultural roots, and remembrance; then, participants will create two gifts inspired by their own hometown and cultural memory—one to keep and one to exchange with another participant in a circle (A to B, B to C, C to A); finally, the group will share reflections on how ritual, making, and exchange create a moment of pause.

When: Sunday, June 21, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
Price: Free, with donations to Rhizome DC suggested.
RSVP: RSVP is requested via the event page.
Supplies: Basic art supplies (paper, pencils, colored pencils, acrylic paint, and brushes) will be provided; participants are encouraged to bring any additional materials for their DIY projects.
Tagged: 2026, community, workshop.
Venue: Rhizome DC.
Note: All ages and skill levels are welcome; the event is an opportunity to connect with cultural traditions and community through creative exchange.
