THE STRING QUEENS

The String Queens bring a genre-spanning string performance to Birchmere, combining classical technique with jazz, hip-hop, R&B, and popular music. The award-winning trio uses its dynamic stage presence and contemporary arrangements to make string music more inclusive, relevant, and reflective of diverse cultural experiences.

Their performance work is grounded in a broader mission to educate, inspire, and empower audiences. The group has appeared at the 2021 Presidential Inauguration Concert, NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert series, ESPN’s Wimbledon campaign, the Hollywood Bowl, Lincoln Center, the Kennedy Center, Birdland Jazz Club, Blue Note Jazz Club Napa, the DC Jazz Festival, the Saratoga Jazz Festival, the Capital Jazz Festival, and other major venues and events. They have collaborated with violinist Regina Carter and singer-songwriter Coco Jones, and have worked with the National Symphony Orchestra and Capital City Symphony.

The trio’s recorded releases include *The String Queens* (2019), *Our Favorite Things* (2020), and *RISE* (2022). A fourth studio album, co-produced by Regina Carter and featuring special guest artists, is scheduled for summer 2026. The group’s honors include WAMM Awards for Best Classical Group and Best Classical Song, the Atlanta Symphony’s Aspire Award, and the DC Jazz Festival Organization’s Jazz Education Award. Their media appearances have included CBS Mornings and Voice of America.

Beyond concerts, The String Queens serve as U.S. Department of State Cultural Ambassadors through the American Music Abroad program and are voting members of the Recording Academy. Their education and community work includes workshops, masterclasses, professional-development sessions, and keynote presentations for Carnegie Hall, Save the Music Foundation, El Sistema USA, schools, and universities. Their educational approach connects classical string instruction with contemporary music, cultural responsiveness, and student voice.
