Rick Whitehead Jazz Trio w/ Special Guest Steve Wolf
Rick Whitehead’s long-running jazz trio brings its seasoned Washington-area sound to Hank Dietle’s Tavern, joined by special guest bassist Steve Wolf. The performance promises tight ensemble interplay, virtuosic musicianship, and a blend of lyrical guitar, swinging bass, and precise drumming shaped by decades of experience.
Formed in 1994, not long after the death of guitarist Danny Gatton, the trio has performed at Blues Alley, Bohemian Caverns, the Kennedy Center Millennium Stage, and the Smithsonian Jazz Club. Its albums include *Live in Captivity*, which received the 1998 Washington Area Music Association Award for Best Contemporary Jazz Album, as well as *Live in Captivity, Again* and *So There We Were…* Whitehead is known for expressive guitar phrasing, while bassist John Previti and drummer Nick Ruggieri bring extensive jazz experience and strong rhythmic interplay.
Steve Wolf, the evening’s special guest, is a veteran DMV bassist, producer, and bandleader who has been active in the Mid-Atlantic music scene since the late 1960s. His credits include work with Danny Gatton, Tom Principato, The Nighthawks, Deanna Bogart, Ron Holloway, Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley, Dr. John, and Clarence Clemons.
