Lynda Schuster discusses the reissue of her book *A Burning Hunger: One Family’s Struggle Against Apartheid* at Politics and Prose, marking the 50th anniversary of the Soweto Uprising. The book tells the story of the Mashinini family—Joseph, Nomkhitha, and their thirteen children—who became deeply involved in the anti-apartheid movement, led by their son Tsietsi Mashinini, a key figure in the 1976 Soweto student protests. Through extensive interviews and research, Schuster portrays the family's experiences of exile, imprisonment, and loss, as well as their dignity and courage, offering a human-scale view of the liberation struggle. Schuster, a former foreign correspondent for *The Wall Street Journal* and *The Christian Science Monitor*, also wrote the memoir *Dirty Wars and Polished Silver*.
