Tricky
Tricky comes to Lincoln Theatre in support of *Different When It’s Silent*, his first album under his own name in six years and his 15th studio album. The record marks a return after several projects released through his False Idols label, including work as Lonely Guest, Theis Thaws, and a collaboration with Marta Złakowska.
The album grew out of a period of personal grief following the sudden death of Tricky’s daughter in 2019. Its songs move through loss, anger, melancholy, resilience, and renewed creative energy, while retaining the distinctive, genre-defying sound associated with his work. Tricky has described the album as a point at which he feels ready to begin moving forward and return to touring.

Featured artists: Tricky is joined on the album by Bristol singer-songwriter Mitch Sanders, who provides most of the male vocals, and Marta Złakowska, whose vocals appear on the closing track, “Out of Place.” Other album contributors include Bristol rapper Red Run Rambo, singer Christian Pattemore of Forgotton Pharaohs, an opera singer, a violinist, and a cellist.
Music: *Different When It’s Silent* includes the songs “Still See Me There,” “I’m Yours,” “Because I Don’t Know,” “Be Still in the Pain,” “Paris Maybe,” “Marinade,” “Piano,” “So Cold,” “Frontier Town,” and “Out of Place.” The album incorporates blues, rock, electronic, funk, and drum-and-bass-influenced production, along with a reworked cover of Dope Lemon’s “Marinade.”
Background: Tricky’s previous projects included the Lonely Guest album and film, the collaborative *Fifteen Days* with producer Mike Theis under the name Theis Thaws, and *Out The Way* with Marta Złakowska. His manager Alan McGee encouraged him to release the new material as a Tricky album rather than another side project.
