Fall Big Band Showcase: UMD Jazz Ensemble, UMD Jazz Lab Band and University Jazz Band

The Fall Big Band Showcase brings together the UMD Jazz Ensemble, UMD Jazz Lab Band and University Jazz Band for an evening of innovative interpretations of classic and contemporary jazz works. The repertoire will be announced closer to the concert.

UMD’s jazz ensembles include more than 100 students. The premier UMD Jazz Ensemble regularly performs at off-campus events such as the Maryland Music Educators Association annual conference and local jazz festivals. It is also one of three elite bands featured each year at the Calvin Jones Big Band Jazz Festival, an important event on Washington, D.C.’s jazz calendar that is frequently broadcast on the BET Network. UMD jazz combos and big bands also perform outreach concerts at venues including the National Archives, public libraries, the National Building Museum, area schools and campus events.
