Swing into an evening of jazz with the Fall Big Band Showcase at The Clarice at UMD, a single-night performance featuring three student jazz ensembles from the UMD School of Music. The UMD Jazz Ensemble, UMD Jazz Lab Band, and University Jazz Band will share the Dekelboum Concert Hall stage, offering innovative interpretations of classic and contemporary jazz works. Admission is free and no tickets are required, making this an accessible opportunity to hear more than 100 student musicians perform in a premier concert hall setting. The specific repertoire is announced closer to the concert date, but the evening promises a full program of big band energy and musicianship.

The three bands are part of a vibrant jazz program at the University of Maryland. The UMD Jazz Ensemble, the flagship group, frequently performs at off-campus events including the Maryland Music Educators Association annual conference and local jazz festivals, and is one of three elite bands that performs each year at the Calvin Jones Big Band Jazz Festival in Washington, D.C. The jazz program also includes combos and big bands that give outreach concerts at venues such as the National Archives, public libraries, the National Building Museum, and area schools, as well as at campus events like Maryland Day, galas, and commencement activities.
