Tenango Embroidery Workshop

Experience the vibrant artistry of Tenango embroidery in this hands-on workshop at the Mexican Cultural Institute, led by authorized instructors from the Ñuju (Otomí) people. Originating from Tenango de Doria in the Otomí Sierra of Hidalgo, Mexico, Tenango embroidery is known for its vivid colors and imaginative depictions of flora, fauna, everyday life, religious traditions, harvest scenes, and Día de Muertos imagery—each piece tells a symbolic and almost fantastical story. In this two-hour class, you will learn the history and cultural origins of the technique, receive a step-by-step demonstration, and create your own 20 x 20 cm Tenango-inspired embroidery using a complete kit provided. All materials and instructor fees are included in the $40 fee, and your contribution supports the Institute’s cultural programming.

Showtimes: Two sessions are available: 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM EDT and 1:30 PM – 3:30 PM EDT.
Tickets: $40 per person (all materials and instructor fees included). Refunds are available up to one day prior to the event.
Lineup: Led by authorized instructors from the Ñuju (Otomí) people, who have permission to teach this traditional technique and share its cultural significance respectfully and authentically.
