Crazy Chester - A Very Carrboro Tribute To The Band & The Last Waltz 50th Anniversary Tour w/ JP Hudson
Crazy Chester brings its Carrboro-based tribute to The Band to Jammin Java for a special performance commemorating the 50th anniversary of The Last Waltz. The concert recreates most of The Band’s legendary Thanksgiving Day 1976 farewell performance, which was later captured in Martin Scorsese’s 1978 film, while also traveling beyond the original Carrboro events as part of the anniversary tour.
The performance will feature additional musicians and special local guests covering songs associated with the film’s guest artists, including Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan, and Neil Young. The complete guest lineup has not yet been announced.
When: November 27, 2026.
Tickets: Free.
Venue: Jammin Java, 227 Maple Avenue East, Vienna, Virginia 22180.
Lineup: Crazy Chester features Jones Bell as Richard Manuel, Charles Cleaver as Garth Hudson, Rob DiMauro as Levon Helm, Justin Ellis as Rick Danko, and Rafael Green as Robbie Robertson.
Background: Crazy Chester formed in early 2020 for a series of one-off performances in North Carolina’s Piedmont region. The group is made up of Carrboro musicians associated with projects including Mellow Swells, Ravary, Big Star’s Third, Fancy Gap, Lemon Sparks, Heat Preacher, Mixtape Grab Bag, Slow Teeth, Easter Island, One After 919, and Rafael Green’s solo work.
Performance: This is Crazy Chester’s sixth consecutive year presenting its recreation of The Band’s farewell concert, expanded with guest performers and the songs originally performed by the many artists featured in The Last Waltz.
Guest performers: Additional local guests are planned, but the full list is still to be determined.
