Les Misérables

Olney Theatre Center presents a new production of *Les Misérables*, celebrating the musical’s 40th anniversary and its first presentation at Olney. Based on Victor Hugo’s sweeping novel, the production follows Jean Valjean from his imprisonment as convict 24601 through his life in hiding and his devotion to Cosette, while the relentless Inspector Javert pursues him. The story culminates amid the revolutionary fervor of the 1832 Paris uprising, exploring redemption, justice, sacrifice, and love.

The musical features music by Claude-Michel Schönberg, lyrics by Herbert Kretzmer, and original French text by Alain Boubil and Jean-Marc Natel. Stephen Brackett directs, William Carlos Angulo choreographs, and Christopher Youstra serves as music director.

Creative team: Directed by Stephen Brackett and choreographed by William Carlos Angulo, with music direction by Christopher Youstra. The musical is by Alain Boubil and Claude-Michel Schönberg, with music by Claude-Michel Schönberg and lyrics by Herbert Kretzmer. It is based on Victor Hugo’s novel and adapted and originally directed by Trevor Nunn and John Caird.
