Visionary Evenings with Paul Taylor’s muse, Laura Halzack
An evening of contemporary dance and conversation featuring acclaimed dancer and choreographer Laura Halzack, presented by the Arts Club of Washington. Halzack will discuss her career in an interview with Arts Club member and choreographer Dana Tai Soon Burgess, followed by new work performed by LaHa Dance Group, the New York City-based company she founded.
Halzack is regarded as one of the last muses of legendary choreographer Paul Taylor. She joined the Paul Taylor Dance Company in 2006 and spent 13 years with the company, performing in 67 of Taylor’s works and more than 80 roles. Taylor created 16 works on her, including the leading female role in his final masterpiece, “Beloved Renegade.” Her career has also included work with other prominent contemporary choreographers and companies, as well as features in Dance Magazine’s “On the Rise” and “Behind the Curtain” series and on its February 2018 cover.
Since founding LaHa Dance Group in 2022, Halzack has served as its artistic director and choreographer. Her choreography has been presented at venues and festivals including the Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage and the Asbury Park Dance Festival, with commissions from Alma College, The George Washington University, and Towson University. The program celebrates Paul Taylor’s legacy and the ongoing development of contemporary dance.

Showtimes: Cocktail hour runs from 6:30 to 7:00 p.m., the performance and conversation program is scheduled for 7:00 to 8:00 p.m., and dessert follows from 8:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Tickets: Arts Club members pay $30 per person; non-members pay $45 per person. Guests must be registered.
