Urinetown

Urinetown, presented by George Mason School of Theater, is a satirical musical set in a Gotham-like city suffering through a 20-year drought. In this dystopian future, water is so scarce that private toilets are banned by the government, and citizens are forced to use public amenities operated by a single malevolent company that profits from charging admission for one of humanity's most basic needs. The show follows a hero who decides he has had enough and leads a revolution for freedom. Written by Greg Kotis and Mark Hollmann, the musical skewers the legal system, capitalism, social irresponsibility, populism, environmental collapse, privatization of natural resources, bureaucracy, municipal politics, and musical theater itself, while remaining hilarious and touchingly honest. This particular production is directed by Erin Gardiner, with musical direction by Joe Walsh and choreography to be announced.

Venue: George Mason University Center for the Arts, Harris Theatre, Fairfax Campus.

Showtimes: October 28 at 7:30 p.m.; October 29 at 7:30 p.m.; October 30 at 7:30 p.m. with a post-show talkback, ASL interpretation, and audio description; October 31 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.; and November 1 at 2 p.m.

Tickets: $30 for adults and $15 for students, staff, seniors, and groups, with preview tickets priced at $15. Prices include fees. Individual tickets go on sale August 4, 2026, and subscribers who choose three or more performances save 15% for the 2026–27 season.
