Sillygander is a free, monthly improv comedy gathering from Resonance Improv Alliance, created as a welcoming midweek escape for Arlington and Northern Virginia audiences. The interactive evening invites attendees to step beyond the usual audience-stage divide, try improv themselves, and enjoy spontaneous comedy created by local performers and workshop participants.

The event begins with a supportive introductory workshop for absolute beginners and improv-curious attendees, followed by a live jam featuring audience suggestions, local indie ensembles, veteran community players, and workshop graduates. The atmosphere is collaborative, warm, and unpredictable, with a focus on active listening, trust, and the “Yes, And” principle.

When: Wednesday, September 23, 2026, from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m.

Schedule: The 40-minute Intro Workshop begins at 5:30 p.m. The Showtime Jam begins at 6:10 p.m. and follows immediately afterward.

Venue: Arlington Central Library Auditorium, 1015 N. Quincy Street, Arlington, VA 22201.

Tickets: Admission is completely free. No ticket, RSVP, preregistration, or confirmation code is required, although Eventbrite registration is available to help organizers estimate attendance.

Workshop: The opening session is designed for complete beginners and includes collaborative group games and foundational exercises focused on active listening, spontaneous agreement, scene-partner trust, and applied improv.

Lineup: The jam may include local independent improv ensembles, experienced community players, and participants from the introductory workshop. Performances are made up live from audience suggestions.

Ages: Intended for teens and adults ages 16 and older.

Content Note: Because the comedy is improvised, the content is unpredictable and generally falls somewhere between a PG-13 and R-rated baseline.

Parking: Ample on-site parking is available at the library. Attendees are directed to the library website for parking details.

Late Arrival: Guests may join the workshop or show whenever they arrive.

Accessibility: The event is presented as welcoming, supportive, and accessible high-energy entertainment, with an entry-level workshop for people who are new to improv.

Organizer: Resonance Improv Alliance.

Contact: The organizer can be reached at nina@resonanceimprov.org. Improvisers interested in leading the jam may volunteer through the organizer’s volunteer portal.

Media Notice: Photography, audio, and video recording may take place for Resonance Improv Alliance’s community and promotional use. Guests who do not want to be photographed or have their media shared can notify an organizer on-site or email contact@resonanceimprov.org to opt out.

Note: No soliciting or donations will take place at the event. Sillygander is not sponsored by Arlington Public Library.
