50 for 50: Jayne Gaskins
50 for 50: Jayne Gaskins presents Gaskins’s fiber-based artwork as part of Touchstone Gallery’s yearlong 50 for 50 project, which gives 50 community artists an opportunity to exhibit their work during the gallery’s 50th-anniversary year. Her practice combines realism with subjective and expressionistic responses to the world around her, using fiber for its tactile qualities and versatility.
Gaskins creates compositions with hard edges and intense colors that reflect the strength and complexity of human emotion. She invites viewers to bring their own interpretations to the work and hopes it prompts personal reflection. Her art has been exhibited across the United States, Europe, Asia, and Australia, and appears in private and museum collections. Her exhibition history includes Xe Triennale Internationale des Mini-Textiles in France, Quilt National, and FiberArt International. Her work has also been featured in publications including *Exploring Art Quilts, Vol. 2*, where one of her pieces appeared on the cover, as well as *Art Quilts Unfolding – 50 Years of Innovation* and *The Natural World: Profiles of Major Artists Galleries*.
