The Longest Johns

The Longest Johns bring their energetic, modern interpretation of traditional sea shanties and work songs to Lincoln Theatre. Formed in Bristol in 2012, the folk group combines close vocal harmonies, humor, folk-rock drive, and original songwriting. Their 2021 rendition of “Wellerman” became a viral TikTok sensation, helping fuel the worldwide “ShantyTok” revival.

The group’s latest musical direction includes songs from *Ends of the Earth*, which explores subjects ranging from eighteenth-century crimes to creatures of the American wilderness. Their catalog also includes the *Pieces of Eight* project and the 2024 fan-funded album *Voyage*, which was accompanied by a book of original stories, artwork, and lyrics. The band consists of Jonathan “JD” Darley, Andy Yates, and Robbie Sattin.

About The Longest Johns: The group has built an international following through extensive touring, online performances, and releases that balance traditional folk music with contemporary influences. They have toured throughout the UK, Europe, North America, Australia, and New Zealand, and have appeared at gaming-related events including the 2025 Pokémon Europe International Championships and Jingle Jam. The band has more than half a million YouTube subscribers and more than 628,000 monthly Spotify listeners.

Supporting performer: Seán Dagher is a performer, arranger, and composer whose work spans Celtic, Baroque, Medieval, Arabic, French-Canadian, and Maritime traditions. He sings and plays Irish bouzouki, mandolin, oud, and banjo, and is a member of Skye Consort and co-artistic director of La Nef. He is also known for his sea-shanty recordings in the *Assassin’s Creed* video game series, which have accumulated roughly 70 million streams. Dagher has collaborated with ensembles and artists across North America and Europe, received OPUS and ADISQ recognition, and regularly tours with The Longest Johns.
