Pigeons Playing Ping Pong
On Friday, December 4, 2026, All Good Presents brings Baltimore’s Pigeons Playing Ping Pong to the 9:30 Club, with support from Asheville’s Fireside Collective. Doors open at 7 PM for this single-night headline show, which pairs the psychedelic-funk quartet’s high-energy improvisation with a newgrass-jam outfit known for genre-blending exploration.
Pigeons Playing Ping Pong are currently supporting their eighth studio album, *Feed The Fire*, released on No Coincidence Records. The Baltimore quartet consists of Greg “Scrambled Greg” Ormont on vocals and guitar, Jeremy Schon on guitar and vocals, Ben Carrey on bass and vocals, and Alex “Gator” Petropulos on drums and vocals. The album represents a new creative chapter for the band after sixteen years together, with a deeper focus on collaboration and texture. Nashville musician Wes Bailey of Moon Taxi co-wrote the title track’s spiraling guitar hook, marking the band’s first true collaborative writing experience. Ben Carrey steps into the lead vocal role on “Hit The Ground Runnin’,” and horn contributions from Here Come The Mummies and West End Blend appear on tracks like “Fantasy” and “Calm Before The Storm.” Producer Chalk Dinosaur added psychedelic layers to “Twitch” and “Underworld.” Other standout tracks mentioned in the band’s promotional material include the buoyant “Right Track” and the driving “Undivided,” with the album overall described as a blend of disco-funk, psychedelia, and danceable rock. The band’s live reputation is built on relentless energy, fan-driven community, and milestone moments such as their annual Domefest gathering.
Fireside Collective formed in Asheville, North Carolina, in 2014, with original members Joe Cicero on guitar, Jesse Iaquinto on mandolin, Tommy Maher on resonator guitar, and Carson White on bass. The band began as a bluegrass-oriented project before expanding into a more eclectic jam sound after returning to touring following the pandemic, drawing inspiration from groups like the Grateful Dead and moving toward nightly changing setlists, longer improvisational passages, and broader musical styles. When drummer Michael Tillis joined in late 2023, the group added heavier funk elements, classic rock, and even touches of techno and world music, evolving into a hybrid of bluegrass, folk, funk, and jam-band rock by the end of 2024.
