The Tallest Man On Earth

The Tallest Man On Earth performs at Lincoln Theatre DC on October 17, 2026, with Wales-born, Brighton-based instrumental guitarist Gwenifer Raymond. Raymond is known for combining Mississippi blues, John Fahey-inspired American Primitive guitar, Welsh folk influences, folk-horror imagery, and avant-garde textures into her own “Welsh Primitive” style.

Raymond’s work draws on her Welsh roots, fingerstyle blues, Appalachian folk, punk, classical music, and experimental composition. Her third studio album, *Last Night I Heard the Dog Star Bark*, is scheduled for release in 2025 through We Are Busy Bodies, following *Strange Lights Over Garth Mountain* and *You Were Never Much of a Dancer*. She has also composed music for the 1907 silent French horror film *The Red Spectre* and has toured with artists including Michael Chapman, Michael Hurley, The Handsome Family, Lankum, Charlie Parr, Richard Dawson, Ryley Walker, and Squid. Her festival appearances include WOMAD, Green Man, End of the Road, and Transmusicales.

Featured performer: Gwenifer Raymond was born in Cardiff in 1985 and began exploring guitar after hearing Nirvana and Lead Belly. She later studied blues guitar, Appalachian folk, clawhammer banjo, and the alternative-thumb technique associated with American Primitive guitar. After earning an MA and PhD in astrophysics from Cardiff University and moving to Brighton, she was discovered while playing open-mic nights and signed to Tompkins Square Records in 2017.

Music: Raymond’s guitar work incorporates finger-picked blues, intricate Americana, eerie folk-horror atmospheres, classical and avant-garde ideas, and sounds inspired by the landscapes of rural South Wales. Her instruments have included a Waterloo WL-14L, a Tricone National Resonator, and an 1880s Joseph Bohmann guitar given to her by Henry Kaiser.

Albums: Raymond’s recorded work includes *You Were Never Much of a Dancer* from 2018, *Strange Lights Over Garth Mountain* from 2020, and the forthcoming *Last Night I Heard the Dog Star Bark*.
