HANUKKAH SPECTACULAR
Hanukkah Spectacular is a world-premiere comedy by Max Posner, directed by Tony winner David Cromer, and produced as part of Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company’s 2026–2027 season. The play is set over a tense long weekend in a glass-walled Midtown talent agency conference room, where four Jewish artists are trying to develop a commercially viable holiday show about Hanukkah. What begins as a sharp rehearsal comedy gradually transforms into a more personal reckoning: boundaries between actor and character dissolve, unresolved history between a brother and sister cracks the room open, a writer’s nerves short-circuit under pressure, and a veteran director is forced to confront an unexpected role as the parent nobody cast him to be.
Written by Lucille Lortel nominee Max Posner, whose credits include The Treasurer, and directed by Tony winner David Cromer, known for The Band’s Visit, the production is described as a comedy about collaborating with trauma. It is one of five world premieres in Woolly’s first season curated by new Artistic Director Reggie D. White, and it highlights the company’s commitment to bold new work and artists who push theatrical form and perspective.
