David Newbould
David Newbould brings his heartland roots-rock, Americana, and amplified folk songs to the Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage. A Canadian-born, Nashville-based songwriter and touring musician, Newbould draws on a career shaped by years on the road, five acclaimed albums, multiple EPs, and collaborations with artists including Jon Dee Graham, Cindy Cashdollar, Dan Baird, and Aaron Lee Tasjan. His music has also appeared on television programs such as *Dawson’s Creek* and *Criminal Minds*.
The performance reflects Newbould’s wide-ranging catalog, including material from *DN AF*, *Power Up!*, and his recent release *Average Fidelity Vol. 1*. His songs explore touring life, difficult choices, family separation, and the pursuit of an honest life. Featured examples include the bluegrass-influenced “Straight Shot to Bakersfield,” the guitar-driven “Into The Deep,” the autobiographical “Fractured Love,” and “Coin Flip,” which imagines a friend leaving his future to the toss of a coin. Newbould’s largely one-person recording approach combines raw guitars with straightforward, heartfelt drums, bass, and piano, creating the feel of a live rock-and-roll band.
