Duncan Phillips’s Support of Avery, Gottlieb & Rothko
Duncan Phillips’s Support of Avery, Gottlieb & Rothko is an intimate Living Room conversation at The Phillips Collection led by Renée Maurer, the museum’s associate curator. The talk explores how the exhibition *Avery, Gottlieb & Rothko: By the Sea* presents the friendship and artistic exchange among the three artists, as well as Duncan Phillips’s role in encouraging and supporting their work.
Maurer has curated and co-curated numerous Phillips exhibitions, including *Timeless Mucha: The Magic of Line*, *Breaking it Down: Conversations from the Vault*, *Up Close with Paul Cezanne*, *Alma W. Thomas: Everything is Beautiful*, *Riffs and Relations: African American Artists and the Modernist Tradition*, and *A Modern Vision: European Masterworks from The Phillips Collection*. She previously worked as a research assistant at the National Gallery of Art and has also developed installations focused on Sam Gilliam, William Christenberry, and Morris Louis.
