Altered Books and Journals
Alter existing books and transform them into three-dimensional mixed-media artworks in this three-week beginner workshop. Participants will explore painting, paper, fabric, collage, inserts, pockets, and personalized elements such as photographs and memorabilia. Projects can become personal journals or handmade gifts, with instruction also covering alternative bindings and closures using materials such as leather, hinges, buttons, cords, and ribbons.
Sharon Robinson leads the workshop. A mixed-media, collage, and assemblage artist, Robinson has worked as a muralist, instructor, gallery manager, and arts-program administrator. She teaches at institutions including the Smithsonian, The Torpedo Factory in Alexandria, and Pyramid Atlantic Art Center, and has exhibited her work extensively on both coasts.
