Alex Bugnon
Alex Bugnon brings his melodic, groove-centered contemporary jazz to Blues Alley. The Swiss-born composer, keyboardist, and bandleader is known for music that reflects both his distinctive sound and broad creative influences. His 2001 recording “Soul Purpose” spent 23 weeks on Billboard’s Contemporary Jazz chart.
Bugnon grew up near Montreux, Switzerland, home of the renowned Montreux Jazz Festival, and was influenced early on by his friendship with Herbie Hancock and his uncle, legendary trumpeter Donald Byrd. He studied at the Paris Conservatory and Berklee College of Music before developing a sound shaped by jazz, R&B, gospel, and funk. After moving to New York, he toured with artists including Melba Moore, Freddie Jackson, Patti Austin, James Ingram, and Glenn Jones. His work with saxophonist Najee led to his first recording contract with Orpheus Records.
