Heyward Conducts Schumann & Brahms

Baltimore Symphony Orchestra Music Director Jonathon Heyward leads an all-Romantic program pairing Robert Schumann’s rarely heard Violin Concerto with Johannes Brahms’s radiant Second Symphony, along with a work by American composer William Grant Still. The evening explores the deep musical friendship between Schumann and Brahms, framed by Schumann’s introspective final concerto, written as his health was failing, and the luminous optimism of Brahms’s symphony. German violinist Isabelle Faust joins as soloist for the Schumann concerto, offering a program that moves from fragility to warmth and Romantic grandeur.
