HEAVENS TO BETSY

Heavens to Betsy reunites founding members Corin Tucker and Tracy Sawyer for a return to the DIY punk project they formed during the riot grrrl era. Their music confronts rape culture, body image, queerness, friendship, bodily autonomy, and intersectional politics, bringing the project’s feminist and inclusive punk perspective to a period when marginalized communities continue to face threats to their rights and safety.

The duo first met in Eugene, Oregon, and formed Heavens to Betsy after Tucker moved to Olympia and became involved in its emerging riot grrrl community. Their first performance was at the International Pop Underground convention’s Girl Night, alongside an audience that included members of Fugazi, Bikini Kill, Bratmobile, and Calamity Jane. From 1992 to 1994, they released three 7-inch records and the full-length album *Calculated* through Kill Rock Stars. The band became known for Tucker’s forceful vocals and Sawyer’s driving musicianship, as well as for turning personal anger and vulnerability into songs that helped shape a generation of feminist punk.
