Marlo Pascual: Making Something Out of Something

Marlo Pascual: Making Something Out of Something is a posthumous survey of the visionary artist’s work, drawn entirely from the collection of the National Museum of Women in the Arts. Pascual (1972–2020) took anonymous vintage photographs sourced from thrift stores and online markets, then radically transformed them by enlarging, cropping, shattering, tearing, or folding the images, often encasing them in thick Plexiglas and pairing them with everyday objects. The resulting works hover between photography and sculpture, humor and unease, forcing viewers to reconsider the familiar imagery they thought they knew. The exhibition features seventeen pieces created between 2009 and 2014, showcasing Pascual’s signature methods of recontextualization and her ability to give found images a new, charged physical presence.
