Sonic Chambers Quartet

Sonic Chambers Quartet is a collaborative ensemble led by New Orleans-based clarinetist and saxophonist Byron Asher and New York City-based saxophonist and clarinetist Tomas Majcherski. With Matt Booth on bass and Doug Garrison on drums, the quartet moves between improvisation and composition, exploring wide-ranging harmonies, changing musical densities, and moments of catharsis.

The project is based between New Orleans and New York City and began performing in 2023. Asher and Majcherski have known one another and played together for more than a decade. Their shared background includes avant-garde theater and formal study of philosophy and religion, experiences that inform the group’s approach to improvisation, composition, performance, art, and collectivity. Their latest record is *Kiss of the Earth*, released on 577 Records. The quartet also created music spontaneously in New Orleans’s City Park in April 2025.
