On Art and History: Revealing Abstraction – Artists in Conversation

Artists Adger Cowans, Shinique Smith, and Hank Willis Thomas join Tuliza Fleming, PhD, Supervisory Curator of American Art at the National Museum of African American History and Culture, for a conversation about abstraction and its significance in African American art. The discussion considers abstract art as a vehicle for experimentation, individual expression, and cultural reflection, with connections to the exhibition *Revelation: A Journey into Abstraction*, which surveys the creativity and influence of African American abstract artists from the mid-20th century to the present.

The exhibition will be available to view on Level 4 before the program, and light refreshments will be served. The exhibition’s companion book will also be available for purchase through Smithsonian Enterprises.
