Smidley

Smidley, led by Conor Murphy, brings its third album, *Murphy Horse*, to Songbyrd Music House. The record traces Murphy’s changing relationship with music, creative identity, marriage, and adulthood, placing his personal and professional selves at a point of tension and reassessment.

The project has grown beyond its earlier, closely sung and primarily folk-oriented approach. With Foxing bassist Brett Torrence now on guitar, and joined by bassist Mitch Renfrew and drummer Jack Middeke, Smidley has developed into a broader indie pop and indie rock ensemble. The music reflects Murphy’s decision to confront uncertainty about his career and future rather than abandon music, turning that crossroads into the central subject of the album.
